If you are taking statins, you need to supplement with CoQ10.
Statins cause coq10 serum levels to drop, reduce the effect of coq10 supplements, and hamper liver production of coq10. This is very dangerous as the heart as well as all muscles in the body need this vitamin to help produce ATP a molecule that carries energy for heart beat and muscle function. You could call it a spark plug. The pharmaceutical companies who produce statins know this and it is known that they have a patent to manufacture statins with Coq10 for this reason. No drug has been developed as yet.

The relationship between coenzyme q10 and heart health can be summed up in one sentence – Every muscle in the body, particularly the heart, the muscle that has most demand for coenzyme q10, can’t function without this vitamin, which is vital for life itself.

Though it be an important cofactor in the smooth running of cardiovascular function, it is not stressed enough in the view of many conscientious doctors, who have seen a coenzyme q10 deficiency in their patients when treating serious heart conditions.

Answer:
We've used CoQ10 here as part of a mitochondrial cocktail to improve digestion and absorption of fats and nutrients. It works very well in that application, but I've not really had any interaction with it and statins as we don't do pharmaceuticals. I have the ability to state that when you take CoQ10, you should take it with fats for proper absorption (health fats please). With my daughter, we had her take it with breakfast eggs or cod liver oil.

Answer:
I spent a fortune (to me) on it, bought at Holland and Barratt. No, I do not work there! It was suggested for gum disease and made not one scrap of difference.
Information below is from the link given

CoQ1O is a very powerful antioxidant and neutralises free radicals. It also works with vitamin E to protect cell membranes (and particularly immune cell membranes) from free radical attack, thus boosting the immune system. It also seems to activate macrophages, the seek-and-destroy white cells.

there’s more information on the second link and if you Google Coq10 there is a Wikipedia sitw too.
