I have gotten a quantity or horny goat weed and am looking forward to experiencing the effects, but i'm just wondering if there are any side effects other than increased sexual arousal. also, does anyone know if it can be smoked??
Answer:
Well according to Chinese Medicine, Horny Goat Weed (HGW) is a yang herb. So if you were going to take it long term the Chinese Practitioners believe it needs to be balanced with a Yin herb or HGW might cause problems such as aggressiveness, fever, irritability, tachycardia or other “hot” symptoms.
In animal studies its prolonged use was associated with decreased thyroid activity 1. Thus if you’ve a family history of hypothyroidism check with a doctor first.
If you are on prescribed medication always check with a physician or pharmacist first before taking herbs medicinally. HGW may have some drug interactions. It should not be taken with Viagra, Cialis, or other Phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE-5) inhibitors as it is believed to possess PDE-5 activity.
As with being on any prescribed drugs; if you have any medical condition then check with a doctor first before taking HGW.

Answer:
Side effects can include irritability. I gave some to my husband once, but he was losing his temper, so I stopped it and he was fine. He hadn't been aware that I'd been giving it to him.
