I have always thought that Reiki means “universal energy”, but i have read that in a collection of stories from the Heian period, Reiki clearly states the meaning of “Ghosts and Demons”??. Just curious as to whether there is actually more than one meaning to Reiki.
Answer:
This is an interesting question. I have never heard of reiki in connection with ghosts before, so I thought I would look it up.
Reiki is actually 2 words - Rei and Ki (or Chi)
Rei means “universal” and “Ki” means life energy.
Even though in the western world we lump it together as one word.
its appears that the word “rei” has also been used to for the word “ghost” but it just another usage of the word, it doesn't have anything to do with the alternative therapy practice.
I equate it the same as the words “pair and pear” or “heal and heel”
They sound the same and without written language, it be up to the interpreter to differentiate them based on the usage.
Here's a link to what I found if you want to read through more yourself.

I hope that helps.

This is all a bit of a game and like you stated we can all voice our opinions. To whoever did give the thumbs down…

Answer:
I think the concept is what are you inviting into your life when you do reiki.
As well as “good energy” you could be inviting “bad energy” unwittingly.
I like to be clear about what I invite into my life and specific about it.
If i wanted a loan i'd probably go to a bank where the terms are clearly laid out as opposed to your friendly neighbourhood loan shark who might not be as forth coming with the terms and conditions.
Edit:
and why the thuumbs down?
I like to know which God I'm worshiping and exactly who is providing the energy.
Anyone got a problem with that?
Answer:
Reiki is universal energy / life force energy. I’m a Reiki practitioner and I have never heard of it being used in any way to do with ghost or demons.
Answer:
I haven't been able to find another meaning. But meanings of words do tend to change over time perhaps that’s what has happened to 'Reiki'
