Thanks x

what Devon stated plus it is a muscle relaxer. I took it when I threw my back out. It isn’t an anti-depressant!
Answer:
Valium is a sedative that’s extemely powerful. It is used to treat people with nervous/stress related disorders. It is also used (in higher doses) to make people fall asleep for some invasive medical examinations.
Valium pills come in doses of 2, 5 and 10 so a “quarter of a pill” does not specify the dose. You can still work and act normal on pills of 10 (which I’ve taken) but you feel so abnormally laid back you would just smile if your boss fired you. I was given it to help with pain after a vehicle crash and it made all my muscles relax in the most wonderful way, but when I stopped taking the stuff I turned into a bit of a psycho nutter for a while, with anger flashes etc. It is scary stuff that messes with your brain and I would never take it again.
This is all based on my own experience. I am sure a pharmacist could give you a far more scientific explanation.

The others have failed to mention that valium has the potential for abuse and may cause both psychological and physical dependence/addiction. There are also possible side effects from using it. I have read that recovery from addiction to this drug, although quite possible, is very difficult. You should also know that a number of valium abusers also abuse other illicit drugs.
Valium is usually a secondary drug of abuse, used mainly to potentiate the “high” obtained from other drugs. In other words a lot of illegal drug users use valium to ease the crash from a more massive high such as heroin or meth. However, even legitimate and therapeutic usage of valium is associated with an inherent risk of addiction and physical/psychological dependence.
This drug, as with any drug, should only be used under a physician's advice.

Diazepam is a core medicine in the World Health Organization's “Essential Drugs List”, which is a list of minimum medical needs for a basic health care system.[4] Diazepam is used to treat a wide range of conditions and has been one of the most frequently-prescribed medications in the world for the past 40 years. It is an anti depressant usually given to those in a say of clinical depression. It is definitely a short - term answer to the problem as it is also addictive and once “hooked” it takes an awful long time to correct its effect. There are now, much more effective and efficacious options, ask any doctor! It should only be given under the supervision of a doctor.
