My dentist wants me to go to the hygienist each 3 months for deep cleaning.
I use a sonic toothbrush, I floss, my gums never bleed
I’m sure this is not necessary. I find after visiting the hygienist my teeth are painful and sensitive for a few weeks
I have read over cleaning like this damages the teeth
Would welcome some advice and views
Answer:
I’ve never had any treatment from a dental hygienist although my dentist has asked me several times to see the hygienist as I have a slight build-up of calcium behind my lower front teeth. This has been there for 20plus years and has never bothered me and it can't be seen from the front. If you are doing all that is necessary to keep your teeth clean then don't bother with extra treatments which is only making them richer and makes you suffer with sensitivity which is unpleasant. Do what you think and feel is right. A dentist will do what ever they have the ability to to get more money out of clients. They’re rich enough already and any treatment isn’t cheap. Take care my darling and do what you think is best. Good luck. xx
Answer:
The hygienist is instrumental in removing plaque which you can't see, but damages your tooth over time if left. If you experience pain after the removal of this plaque, it might imply that there was a lot of it on the gum line, which then is removed, leaving the airtight seal (where tooth meets gum) “broken” or “open” until the gums resettle themselves around the tooth again.
Corsodyl gel, used twice daily, helps immensely, so I would advise you buy some, and after brushing your teeth, either rub or smear this onto your gums- don't rinse after. Do this for 7 days after the appointment, and it should both ease the pain, and promote healthier gums. Don't use it all the time though.
Ideal of luck.
Answer:
My dentist suggests it once or twice a year, 4 times a year sounds a bit excessive to me.
Answer:
He wants your cash. You don't have to attend the hygienist, it's entirely your choice.
Answer:
yah thats way to much, u should only have to go to the dentist each 6 months.
Answer:
There after your money, floss with a wire brush , that should do the trick.
Answer:
Each 3 months?
They’re just after making money out of you, it's to much,
