Can i ask the dentist to postpone any work on my teeth until a later date when i can afford it?

I’ve a dentist appointment this week and can only afford the sixteen pounds consultation fee. I'm worried i need a filling but cant pay it this month. Can i ask the dentist if i can make another appointment for the filling next month when i have the funds or have the work done and pay for it at a later date? UK
