I have a hollow tooth!?

Author: admin

I’ve had a hollow tooth for years and it only occasionally hurts, until now - been in constant pain for 2wks now! It is my very back tooth (except the wisdom which keeps fighting to get through!) and I can fit my tongue in the hole so I'm guessing I'm past filling stage - will I need to have it removed or is there another way? Any ideas of cost as NHS dentsits are very hard to come by…

Need to find a dentist now!

Thanks

Answer:
Your pain is probably due to getting some matter into the tooth which has decayed and now is causing an infection - hence your pain and swollen gum….. could also have something to do with your wisdom tooth as well ….. only a dentist can tell you exactly what is going on ….. if you call in at any NHS dentist and say you need emergency treatment you should be able to get an almost immediate appointment - they have a duty of care to treat emergencies …. you will probably be given antibiotics for a week or two before they have the ability to actually treat the tooth itself even as an emergency .(it will nearly certainly also mean that you then become registered with an NHS dentist)… … there are risks involved in removing teeth which are inflamed and infected….. go to your nearest NHS dentist today……

failing that ask your nearest NHS dentist where your emergency dental treatment centre is (mine is at my local hospital under the name Dentaline - available to anyone for emergency treatment)….

Answer:
If you go to the Accident & Emergency department of your local hospital they will remove the tooth for free, you may have to sit around waiting for hours but if you can't afford a dentist it's a good option.

It's quite possible that the tooth can be repaired if one or more of the roots isn’t decayed so if you want to keep the tooth it's worth consulting a dentist first. You can purchase new teeth these days (screw-in implants) but at £2000-£3000 a tooth it's an expensive business.

Answer:
You'll have to ring the local hospital. They'll refer you to an emergency dentist. If you’re on benefits, they will help with the cost. But you MUST get help soon before the obvious infection causes damage to the bone in your jaw…I believe you’ve an abscess already, which will need antibiotics.
