I'm interested in becoming a dental nurse. Does anyone know what kind of qualifications you need, or what you can do to start off? Thanks in advance ![]()
Answer:
HI! I've been in dentistry for over 20 years. And a Dental Nurse is a real plus! You need to get a 2 year degree as a dental assistant and do clinic and chair side assisting. An xray license is a great plus and if you like working one-on-one with patients, working for an Oral Surgeon would be a great job, and pay superior than with a general dentist. My assistants are great. I can't do the great job I do without them. And they know it. I really appreciate how good they are with all patients from young children to seniors. Also they’re spectacular with special care patients because they’ve had the extra training. If this job is for you GO FOR IT!! You will love it, feel special and get a good job with great pay and benifits. I wish you were in NJ, because I woudl offset your college costs if I had someone that really cared to learn to do this. Most county colleges have a dental assisting program. And MOST dentists that you train with, will pay part/all if you work for them while you’re in school. I pay for my assistants to go to school, pay them for a fulltime job and tutor them so they make great grades and love what they do. Find a dentist that’ll work with you,let you work part time and sponsor you through school. It is a win-win for everyone and my assistants have been me for more than 10 years because I cared enough to help them, work with them and tutor them as they needed. I wish you the very best. If you’ve any other questions, please ask me. Marie D~
