So, I'm a 14 yr old girl and lately I've been really worried about my weight and how I look.

I've always ate what I want and not been bothered and I've always been trim and heathy but now I think I'm getting a bit of a stomach, everyone says I'm really thin and I'd be stupid to go on a diet but I don't want go get fat.

None of my friends or school guys are worried about there weight. So I just want your thought, should I go on a diet or not?

If so can you give me any tips?

Thanks a lot.

Answer:
Probably not a good idea. It would help to know your height and weight though. I'll give you some advice though. Start a healthy lifestyle, not a diet.

-Switch to whole grain over white bread and pasta

-skim or 1% milk over whole or 2%

-lean meats over fatty cuts of meat

-don't drink pop

-eat 5-6 smaller meals a day instead 3 huge ones

-never skip breakfast

etc.

If you begin a healthier lifestyle, you'll be healthier for life not just for a little while like you would with a diet. I went on a “diet” when I was 13 (not I just have a healthier lifestyle) and started counting calories. Don't ever do that! It becomes very obsessive and it's all you can think about. It will make you miserable, trust me. Just remember that your still growing, so an extreme diet could mess that up. Never eat less that 1500 calories a day. Watch out for high fructose corn syrup, partially hydrogenated oil, etc. Those are things you do not want to eat. Always remember to treat yourself occationally, so you don't deprive yourself of your favorite foods. Everything in moderation. Good luck! :)

Answer:
No, do NOT diet.

If you have always been skinny, but ate whatever you liked, then you might not have been healthy.

So really if you’re getting fatter, all you’ve to do is follow a balanced dite, and you should be back to your skinny (but healthy) self ^_^

Good luck!

Answer:
no don't diet, just eat healthy food and not junk like potato chips, cakes, pastries, icecream ect.. eat fruit, vegatables, and some meat! And you don't wanna be really skinny, just normal, cuz you dont wanna look like a skulliton.

GOOD LUCK

Hey, I'm 15, i'm 11st 10, looking to go to 11st. In november 2007 I was 16st 2, I know exacally what you're going through and I know it's hard. Some places do, do a teen gym, I can go gym twice a week for an hour, crap I know, but everything helps. If you’ve a wii, invest in wii fit, it's great, and will help you tone and gain muscle after the weight loss is gone. I had similar motivation to you, I wanted to lose it for prom ( july 11th ) and college in september, however I will warn you I dieted very harshly, and exercised vigorously and lose 4 stone in 8 months, i'd state in 2/3 months you’ll struggle to lose 3 stone, as I lost it quite fast.

With regards to diet ill tell you what I did. I switched from my 1 DR pepper a day, to coke zero, ( no where sales dr pepper zero lol ) Cut chocolate out easy as, don't eat, chips, bacon, sausages, pastys ( you’ll be shocked at the fat in a pasty ) sausage rolls, cream all that kinda stuff, I know it's obvious and anoying but it's one of those things. Switch to red milk, you’ll adjust and it tastes fine. However, there are plently of foods you can eat, healthy living bars like alpen, and even kellogs cerial bars, are low fat alternatives to chocolate and contain very few calories, snack a jacks and flavoured rvita are great foods to eat as well. Jacket potatoes, are incredibly filling, with loads of different fillings, prawns, beans, tuna, cheese, there’s, loads.

Also, as hard as it might be tell people! Tell them your concerned about your weight, your parents and your friends, you'll need the parents to buy the food for you and you need the encouragement from everyone else.

Finally, with regards to excercise, swimming and running are the ideal. I know self confidence can be an issue, but start off gradually, and then improve, you can swim by your self, and no one needs to know, just do your ideal!

Bullys are bastards, that's life though. The great feeling though, is you'll find once you've lost that weight they wont be able to insult you for it, and it's one of the best feelings, I know!

I really do hope you do well in your weight loss, and email me at ( maxieboy3000@hotmail.co.uk) if you want any help and advice whatsoever, i'm always on the internet, and I have the ability to speak and help you when ever.

HOWEVER - I suggest you calculate your BMI first - if it's 25 or lower, don’t even think of dieting or anything just be wary of what your eating - google BMI and do the test.
