I put the tea bag in hot water and remove it after a minute and the color is dark brown/black….I don’t use milk or sugar. The inside of the cup then gets brown and flakes form whilst the tea is still in the cup…..

Now I drink everything down - the cup is stained brown inside which has formed as a result of the brown tea.

Is drinking these flakes of brown stuff harden my arteries and be bad for my heart?

Answer:
Hi Reflect 360,

The overwhelming evidence is that drinking tea is good for your heart not bad.

Whether you use milk or sugar does not really affect the health giving properties of the tea (although too much sugar would be bad)

The staining of the inside of the cup isn’t a problem either - it's just tannin which is a natural dye found in the tea leaves.

The flakes which you see are totally nothing to worry about. I travel extensively, and make tea in countless hundreds of hotels, and I have discovered that the amount of flakes is dependent on the amount of limestone in the tap water which varies around the world.

Tea is a wonderful health giving drink, and can only do your heart good.

I hope you enjoy drinking it for many years to come.

Ideal wishes.

Malcolm.
