how many days is chicken pox contagious? i know its till the pox scabs over coming out. but im sure they are infectious going back?
Answer:
My kids had them in December last year and it will pan out like this;
* First contact with another infected child to yours, you wont see any signs for about 2 weeks
* About a day before you see spots to a week after the first spots is the highest point of being contagious
* Sores / rash will last about 2 weeks, but only the first week is the time when they can really infect others. Having said that, keep them inside for a good 2 weeks after the spots, as other parents get a bit freaked out by it.
* Treatment - don't worry about doctors trips or antibiotics - its rest, isolation and calamine lotion baths (plenty of Disney DVD's and colouring books).
* Plenty of water & juice - they may be off their food
* I know its hard, but try to keep them from scratching or picking them - they will scab
* Don't invite over anyone either, especially anyone who may be pregnant as it may complicate the little one.
If you need to go out, use a small bottle of that antiseptic gel… just to be sure.
If they get fever or start vomiting, get them to the doctor.
Dont worry, every parent goes through this at one point, and 99.99999% of kids go through fine!
Keep an ear out at school to see if there are any romours of "Little Emily has got ….". By the time your school sends out a notice, the spots are `out there`
Good luck

Answer:
Your actually the most contagious from 14 days prior to the out break, most schools will tell you to keep the child home til the spots scab over.
