I have been taking thyroxiene for an underactive thyroid for a number of years now but still feel very tired so my specialist has suggested adrenal support, has anyone else had this - what does it involve and does it work

Answer:
There is a new normal for those on thyroxiene for your TSH- it should be a 3, the old number was a 5. if your numbers are still not down enough, that would be the first thing I would look at. Secondly, there is a T3 supplement that some people take called cytomel. some people do not break down their medications into T3 efficiently. as for the adrenal support, I have not gotten there. I believe my daughter is going to be in the same boat. she was on adderall as a kid, I am wondering if she has depleted adrenals as a result as well as her thyroid issues. I would also check for anemia. I do know the adrenals are on top of the kidneys, but that is about it. sorry. hope you feel better soon.

Answer:
If you are still tired, it could mean you are not converting T4 to T3. If this is the case, you might feel better on a T4/T3 medication like Armour thyroid.

It also could be stressed adrenals. Below is a link to a adrenal-thyroid forum where you can seek out advise.
