I had bloods done yesterday, and the lab called today to say I have a dangerously low white cell count - 0.3. I have got to go to the day unit on Monday for more tests, and he said that I need to monitor my temperature all weekend, and if it goes above 38oC I have to go straight to the hospital for IV antiobiotics. I’m really scared now. Is this that serious? What could it be. Any help or reassurance would be great. Thanks.
Answer:
White blood cells are what fights off infections. If your count is low then if you come accross just about anything (a cold, flu, pneumonia, etc) then your body won't be able to fight it off and you'll become sick.
Basically, your immune system is wiped out.
Answer:
Im not sure what it means,.But dont worry about it all weekend,Just enjoy yourself, dont get stressed, and stay happy until Monday.Avoid doing any work and stuff that could make you stressed.-Best of luck!
Answer:
This means that you have less white blood cells than normal. This means that if you get an infection/illness etc your body will not be able to cope as efficiently as it should.
Answer:
I'm not sure, but take your doctor's advice. That's why they make the large bucks. Stay on the low side for the weekend and get better soon !
Good luck
It's probably a flu like virus.
Answer:
They obviously think you have some kind of infection, so do as they say! Hope you're ok.
