PCOS symbolizes Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and affects between 3 and 5% of all women.
It's exact cause is unknown but it does tend to occur in families with a history of diabetes, it is also more of a problem if you are over-weight which is why you have been asked to diet.
There are drugs such as Clomid which your doctor can prescribe which can improve fertility.

I was diagnosed with PCOS many years ago. I was placed on metformin to help with the cysts. While that eased the pain with time, it did drop my blood sugar all the time. It was too much for my system. I did a year of it and then I stopped it all. I haven't had much of a problem since. It seems many women have this problem. Yes it might make it difficult to conceive but not impossible. Follow the advice of your physicians, but if you feel the treatment they’re using is not write for you don't be afraid to question it. You know your body better than any physician. Good luck to you.
