Ok I went to see the neurosurgeon on Tuesday and I told him about my legs aching and he said nothing. Ok but what my other problem is I suffer from Foramen Magnum Syndrome it is a very rare condition I think it is only so many people in the whole world that suffers from it and unfortunately I have got it. Ok Over the last couple of months I have lost all feeling in my right hand just in my right hand it has been coming and going the most my hand had stayed dead for was 3 wks.
I had mentioned it to him and I don't think he heard me tell him and he never said anything, which makes me think he didn't hear me, I should of told him again but I didn't cos he would of kept me in, do you think I should wait for a month and then get in touch with his secretary and get her to pass a msg onto him or go thru my GP? It has been really bothering me of late and I really do wish I had of told him on tuesday when I saw him. I am so scared now incase it goes the same way as my left arm which is dead.
Answer:
See your family doctor and explain just as you have in this post.
The role of the gp (among other things) is to prioritise the specialists workload by assessing the patients and then requesting emergency, urgent, non-urgent or routine appointments. He/she will make an assessment of your symptoms and then refer you back to the specialist with the appropriate urgency. If unsure you're family doctor may even speak with the specialist directly for clarification.
I don't like to see people being encouraged to "demand" something from their doctor. The Health Service and it's treatments are provided based on "need" rather than "demand".
Be open and honest with your doctor.
Answer:
you could phone and ask for another appointment which will probably yake months or write to him and send a copy to your gp, if you get no response then ask your gp to write to him.
Answer:
Try your gp, because if you send a letter it could take months. Your gp might be able to get you seen quicker. Don't Wait.
Answer:
If this "neurosurgeon" is taking that long why not see another neurosurgeon? My advise would be see another one as it will sort this dead arm thing more quicker. If you usually sleep on a arm less blood goes into that arm meaning less feel from it as well so if you are doing it now you know.
Answer:
you have to go to the doctor right now. and if you think this one doesn't care then see another. its serious don't wait.
Answer:
If i were in your shoes, i would make an appointment with the doc to discuss your symptoms and insist with the secretary you need to see him right away - at least if you make an appointment, you have a few minutes of the docs' time. I would also look for another Neurosurgeon to get another perspective. Its possible that there are treatment options that your doc has not discussed with you. Definitely do not wait a month.
