Why does it get bigger when I rub it?

I've got a quite huge spot on my back which is really itchy, whenever I rub it (can't scratch-too painful) it swells!

this sounds like a bite and rubbing it spreads the poison and therefore makes it swell .the swelling should go down when you stop scratching ,get someone to put antihistamine cream on it and if this does not help see your physician as it may be something else…….
