i had a disease a while back, the disease was on my ear drum and i was born with it.
when they removed it through surgery, they took away most of my ear drum in the right side of my ear.
my doctor tells me i am one of the people in the world who might not benefit from normal hearing aids, but benefit from something called a bone anchored hearing aid.
he told me it will be in my skull and the sound will almost bounce to my canal?
even though i find this all overwhelming, i cant decide whether i enjoy being half deaf, because when i put an ordinary hearing aid in, i feel odd and i don't care about it. i think its because i'm so used to having hearing loss.
the advantages would be i don't have to say 'what?' to my friends all the time so they’ve to shout at me in loud places.
sometimes i feel stupid, and i don't like it.
i don't know what to do.
any ideas from people who aren't deaf and people who are?
maybe someone who has been in my shoes?
all responses will be read with thought
thank you soo much

Answer:
I honestly think you sould get a bone anchored hearing aid, I've seen people who got the surgery and it works well. Hearing aids are awkward (i had to wear one for awhile) they can also give you ear infections, I state go for it. if you don't like the device just have the removable part off all the time but keep it in case you chnage your mind once you get older.

Hi,
Before you jump into the deep end and have the BAHA implant surgery done try wearing a Bone Conductor hearing aid first to see what sort of results you would expect to see with a BAHA unit.
A Bernafon Xtreme 120 BC would be a good unit to try out.
I'd suggest that you visit an Audiologist to see what their opinion of a BC Hearing Aid is in relation to your situation.
Also look into if a Cochlear Implant would be more suitable / useful to you than a BAHA unit , a good ENT Surgeon would be the person to talk to about Cochlear Vs BAHA.
We only have 1 client in our clinic with a BAHA ( Originally fitted in the early 1990's ) but we’ve well over 50+ Clients fitted with Cochlear Implants!
We’ve about 20 Clients with a Headband Bone Conductor hearing aid who get very good results from them.
If you can achieve good results without the need for any surgery that would be the path I would be heading down!
