My partner gets excruciating leg cramps, he might only get one every 6 to 12 months, but when he gets them, they're terrible. He shot out of bed with pain last night, and when i felt his leg his muscle was half the size it usually is, it totally seized up!

What causes them? How can you prevent them? How do you get rid of them?

Answer:
I find I get them if I don't drink enough water for a couple days. Make sure he’s drinking a good 64 ounces of water a day. Soda doesn't count as water :) Also, I eat a banana a day to help my potassium level since leg cramps could be caused by that as well. Since I started making sure of my daily water intake and I eat the banana, I have been fine.

Answer:
A lack of salt causes cramps, and really painful ones at that. The fastest cure is a glass of water with a big spoonful of salt in it. It tastes horrible, but the pain will fade very swiftly. I used to have a cramp or two each week (especially when I practised Judo) - but adding a bit of salt to my diet fixed it.

Answer:
I concur with A W physician told me to eat a banana before i go to bed.I find a cold floor helps to get rid of it, i was getting them each night. Hardly get them now.

Answer:
Get a blood test for any deficiencies. Anaemia for example can cause leg cramps….simply taking ferrous sulphate tablets (over the counter) can make a huge difference in a matter of days.

Answer:
I used to get the same thing, went to GP who gave me Quinine tablets but try drinking tonic water, which contains Quinine also. Not sure how it works but it did!

Answer:
bannanas work really well. If you were to talk to your doctor, he/she would reccomend the same thing.

Answer:
i also heard bananas are the best thing

Answer:
can be dehydration….but sometimes it just happens …could be his diet…see what a physician says.
