I went to see my GP after a car accident earlier as I’m suffering abdominal and back pain and she tested my urine and stated that there are white blood cells in my urine and prescribed antibiotics.
Does anyone know what this could mean? I haven't had any symptoms of a urinary tract infection. I’m still fighting a nasty cold - could this have something to do with it?
Oh yeah, I am a 23 year old female with no history of cystitus or kidney problems.
Answer:
Could be something dwelling in the urethra. White blood cells in the urine can point to a bladder or kidney infection. There's a couple of other things it could be. Your doctor is attacking the usual suspects first though.
You kidneys filter the white blood cells from urine, so it's something from there on down the urinary tract.
Answer:
Generally there are no blood cells present in the urine, the only time they’re present in the urine is if there is an infection of the kidneys or bladder. Inflammation as a result of kidney stones and certain immune disorders can however allow blood to get into the urine too.
White cells are naturally raised when there’s an infection present in order to fight microorganisms, so these cells are most likely to be detected in the urine if you have an infection. The most likely explanation is cystitis/UTI.
Answer:
Diabities, or it could be a kidney problem, or it could be high blood pressure you need to go to your GP if you have found out you ahve got this.
Answer:
More than likely that nasty cold. A raised white cell count is typical of your body fighting an infection. If your doctor wasn't worried, you shouldn't be.
Answer:
Usually an infection somewhere in the body.
