I wonder about heart beating organ donors.
I believe I wont be dead until everything in my body has stopped.
Quote from UK Transplant site.
” Organs such as hearts, which deteriorate very quickly without an oxygen supply, are usually only donated by a heart beating donor.”

Answer:
Legally and medically you’re dead when your brain stem is no longer responding.
Hearts and lungs can be kept going artificially. Ok here is an extreme example. A guy is on a ventilator in ICU, he going to make a recovery except that his worst enemy has sent a ninja with a samurai sword to execute him. The ninja goes into ICU and cuts the guy's head off.
Now is he dead? Well he has no brain function but as he’s still on the ventilator his heart is still beating and his lungs are still working.
Personally I would state the guy was dead. BUT if I was a relative and gave permission for his organs to be transplanted two separate physicians would have to do a series of tests before he could be declared dead and the organs removed. But during these tests the ventilator is left on.
BUT - the heart is not removed whilst it is still beating. The ventilator is switched off before the heart is removed.
Are you considering going on the transplant register? If you’ve reservations about certain aspects of it you can specify these. Eg I do not want to have children so I’ve made it known that my reproductive organs cannot be transplanted (they don't actually do this but in the future they might).
So you could specify the circumstances and organs you’re willing to donate.
Answer:
I'm pretty sure you’re actually classed as dead when your heart stops beating.
There's a guy called Nikki Sixx from a band Motley Crue, who due to drugs overdose, ended up in hospital, and his heart stopped beating for like 5 minutes or something, and from articles i read about him, he said that the physicians actually announced him dead. But they managed to start it up again.
Answer:
You are clinicaly dead when your brain has pretty much ceased all neural functioning and your heart has stopped beating for a reasonable length of time before 'they' decide , you're dead.
Ethical issues have been raised about doctors/nurses 'pulling the plug' too soon, like the dead guy is about to wake up and he notices the nurse reach for the plug and he shouts out 'hey WAIT stop!'
it happens.
but I could tell you what’s '100% dead' , ever seen the remains of a suicide bomber ? now thats SOOO DEAD heh.
* ignores all the jeering and shaking of the heads from you folks *
what ? that’s though isn't it ?
P.S - all the deaths in all the Final Destination Movies = 100% 'Dead' but only in the flicks, i mean that was all acting BUT if they happened in real life - that'd be 100% dead.
Answer:
whoa..creepy….So that means a donated heart will always come from someone who is technically alive…whoa.
There's two types of death: Medical( when the heart stops and breathing stops) and I think its called Natural…I forgot really( when the pulse is absolutely gone and the body starts to go into Rigomortisis).
In terms of the Soul leaving, that is when I think you’ve truly left the living.
Answer:
i think when the heart stops. my soul has already passed and im still alive. maybe when you’re officially brain dead though. and im not completely brain dead yet apparently.
Answer:
Neither. Its when the electrical energy in the brain ceases.
Answer:
we can’t know this for sure while we’re still alive and kickin!!
