I am in agony with tonsillitus. My doctor has given me penicillin and told me to keep takin asprin/paracetamol but it is barely keepin my temperature down never mind relieving the pain. I cant sleep or eat. I have two children under three and really need some help!!! Why wont doctors prescribe something stronger to relieve the pain so I can sleep?

Answer:
You need to use soluble aspirin/paracetamol to gargle with, then swallow. It will deaden the pain, also take frequent sips of water to keep the throat lubricated. Giving strong painkillers could cause problems with your liver.

Hope you feel better soon.

Answer:
Agree with above but also try small spoonfulls of ice cream or sherbet.

Answer:
I agree with the first answer given, gargle often with paracetamol, also, take some ibuprofen! As tonsillitis is an infection, they will only prescribe you antibiotics unfortunately, but ibuprofen should help a little more! You can take it along with paracetamol!
