on thursday i was playing football and i play in goal it was one on one i went in to the player and it was there knee or foot or something but it went into my knee, it was a very hard impact and my knee ballooned up straight away, and i couldn't move it and was in so much pain that they had to ring an ambulance there was a 5 hour waiting time in hospital and they were just trying to get people in and out as quick as poss, i had an xray they stated i hadn't broken anything, and he gave me crutches and said i had sprained my knee cap, when looking on the internet it states that in order to sprain your knee u need to have over stretched but i didn't, i still cant move it, it is extremely painful and cant put any weight on it. is the doc right ? if so how long am i apt to be out for?
Answer:
All xrays which are carried out at the request of and reviewed by the ED Dr are reviewed again by a Radiologist. So anything bony which has been missed will be picked up at that point.
The difficulty with knee injuries is that they are notoriously hard to analyze and diagnose when they’re very swollen. In a way, the swelling can act to stabilise the knee and can help to disguise any potential ligament injury. You need to rest the leg, elevate as often as possible and take anti-inflammatory drugs. Also try using ice for 10-20 minutes every couple of hours. When the swelling has reduced a little, go back to see either the Dr or a Nurse Practitioner and get them to check your ligaments.
Good luck.
Answer:
well I suspect the ER doctor was half right, you have no fractures, but that doesn't mean that other damage was not done. Advocate you make an appointment with your family doc for follow up.
Answer:
The physician is much more likely to be right than any Yahoo Answers diagnosis you might get (if you get any citing medical experience, know that no doc/nurse worth his/her weight in white coats would give a specific diagnosis unless you were sitting in front of him/her).
The doc might have told you when to anticipate the pain to begin to retreat. If it still hurts after that, if swellings not going down, if the coloration changes, or if you think anything may be wrong (and I'm guessing since you posted this you do), get a second opinion from your general practitioner.
