A few months ago i tore my ACL in my knee playing football but the doctor missed what i had actually done and said i would be ok. so i went back a couple of days ago to see a physiotherapist and she stated i've torn my ACL and need surgery to repair it! She also stated i will need a MRI scan but i dont know what one is and am a bit worried about it. Also i was wondering how long i will be in hospital for after the operation and will it be painful?
Answer:
MRI doesn't take long, you just lay for about an hour while it takes an xray.
Normally and ACL repair requires one night in the hospital, if any.
You’ll however anticipate 6-12 weeks of healing and physical therapy.
Also, you won't be able to work out or play football til you are cleared.
Also, normally you’re on crutches the first 2-6 weeks, depending on your doctor.

A MRI would definitely tell the doc the extent of the damage to the ACL. A MRI is not painful; basically you get to lie down while the machine is working but anticipate to hear a sort of pounding noise. For the ACL surgery, you can expect to be in and out of the hospital. Usually, these types of surgeries are same-day patients but each case is different. Basically, they give you general anesthesia and a femoral block and/or spinal block (not sure how those work though). You won't feel anything during the surgery at all. It's only after when the general anesthesia and spinal/femoral blocks are weaned off you that you begin feeling the effects. You will be provided with a brace and a cold machine (it massages the knee with cold ice). Pain meds too are given. Hope this info helps.

Don't be worried about the MRI, all it is, is a tube that you lay in, still, while a magnet takes pictures of your body. You'll just be laying there, it will be noisy, so they'll likely give you earplugs, and youll probably be looking at scenic photos on the wall while the test is done. Its painless and nothing to worry about.
Answer:
an MRI is just a machine you lay there and it takes picture an x ray cant you will have to be still…i dont know if surgery is painful but ive had an MRI im sure youll will be fine tho……i hope your knee gets better
Answer:
in an MRI they may have to put dye in you which can be done by drinking it (they'll mix it with soda) or an IV. then you lay on a tiny bed and they ease you into a circle till the part they're looking at is in it. Its not scary or claustraphobie. All you’ve to do is lay still
As for surgery? It's honestly not that bad. They'll put you to sleep and you dont wake up or anything. lol. When i had my surgery i thought it was kinda fun. The anesthetic makes you reaaaallllly happy. And its cold in the O.R. so they'll put a heated blanket on you that feels really good.
After surgery, you'll feel a little groggy but still happy from the anesthetic. They'll give you pain meds that also make you realllly happy
I might be weird but i actually thought surgery was fun!
