I recently had a car accident, in which I was not seriously hurt. However, during a workout the other day I strained my back; I think this must be as a result of the accident. I heard somewhere that sleeping on the floor in good for back problems is this true and are there any other things I can do to help?

I've never heard of ever sleeping on the floor to ease back troubles. In fact, if anything, it will probably make your back troubles worse. The absolute best solution to this problem is to see a chiropractor to see what the problem is. Any kind of falls to the ground should be checked out immediately, because your back is where the spine is. If it is out of tune, then it can adversely affect your overall health, because of subluxations in the spine. Subluxations are the tightening of the vertabrae, which thus prevent the brain from communicating with the associated body part. This, in turn, affects the healing process. Only a chiropractor can use a number of techniques to get rid of subluxations, so your mind and body can communicate more efficiently.
I once had back troubles, because of improper bending when lifting heavy items, and because of a rough bed I slept in. I feel much better since I went to a chiropractor and got these problems checked out. My back isn't sore anymore, and I have more energy because of it.
Answer:
Once it is injured any indirect practice like sleeping on the floor will not fix the problem. A direct method of fixing damaged body parts is posted here http://www.helium.com/tm/148271
