Could just be irritation from soap or something, or maybe because he was playing with it, I would say leave it and see what happens, if it gets worse or if there are other symptoms it's probably time to take him to a doctor.

Ok there arw about 3 possibilities. I think for the first one, yo need to sit your son down and ask him if he's been in a room…alone with a girl before.
Second reason might be that he just got curious and tried to play with it, but ended up doing the wrong thing.
The third reason is that your son has a UTI (Urinary tract infection) and the physician has to be seen immediately. If your son bedwets (I'm not saying he does) then you can be guaranteed that it's most likely UTI. Oh btw, i hope you've had the dreaded “TALK” with him.

If its a little bit red monitor it for the weekend if it becomes worse then take advise from a gp on Monday. Ensure he’s drinking plenty of fluids incase it is a UTI (water infection).
