Anxiety And Depression?

Hi, I’ve suffered from anxiety and depression from when I was bullied as a kid. And I’ve had this problem for a few years now. And I was just wondering how long it takes to overcome this.

I’ve seen a counsellor. And I am gradually getting superior. I just wish it didn’t take so long. Although, I am proud of some of the things I’ve over come. At one stage I wouldn’t talk to anybody. And now, even though I still find it difficult, can manage to speak to people, even if it isn’t for very long. I also, at one stage, was too afraid to step outside. But now I have a part time job.

It’s just that I feel held back by this, even though it’s not as bad as it use to be. There’s so much I haven’t done. I’m 27 years old. And I still live with my parents. I’m single. Heck, I’ve never even dated because I suffer with anxiety and depression. In fact, humiliating as it is, I’m still a virgin. I just want this to be over with, so I have the ability to move on with my life. And I hate that it’s taken this long.

The fact that your reaching out to people on advice boards, like Yahoo, is awesome! I would take that as a definite step in combating a fear of conversing with people!

Baby steps are the best way to cure any mental disruption in life!

Continue to see a therapist! Go places with people you are comfortable with, like your parents. Go to the mall, see a motion picture, go to a restaurant. Over time, try speaking to people at these places - small speak. You will soon see that most people are very friendly!

As far as your more personal issues. Worry about that later! You state 27 years of age like its old! You have rest of your life ahead of you!

There’s not timeline as to when people will over come fears. It's different for everyone.

8 be amongst people who are giving, friendly who have time for you who love you , select your friends well
9 be or get to a place which personally love or like
10 get and do some work which you like or love
11 ensure you do no acts which hurt or inflict on anyone –don’t want to add to your karma do we !!!

I developed panic disorder while in the military, so I haven't always been held back. But everything you have stated is very similar to my own situation. After being kicked out of the military, I been living with my parents. It has taken me a year just to begin mimicking normal people.

I use the word mimic because I feel completely out of touch with this world, going to the super market might as well be me slaying a dragon. And to be honest with you…I rather slay a dragon then go shopping. For then it justifies such a feeling.

I can only say that there are no shortcuts for people who share the same issue as you and I. Ultimately I have it rooted down to, if I could change the way I think it would in turn change what I do. However I am a slave to my own mind, and I have to take the longer route of. Change what I do, to change how I think.

This method is a double edge sword, for sometimes you take a step forward but others you take 3 steps back. I suppose the greater the risk, the greater the reward.

Select which method of change works ideal for you.
