Im going to the doctors on the 26th of march, im going to ask him for some prozac. Im 15 and i need to be able to go to the chemists and pick up the prescription by myself so my parents don't find out. Is this aloud?
Answer:
Yes you are granted prozac, it is up to the physician though - he/she will probably want your parents to know. It is an ethical dilemma for your physician. There are other ways of feeling better too - counselling is one option and you should be able to get this free through your school (without parents finding out) - talk to your school nurse if you want it to remain confidential. The Bio chemical imbalance (chemical imbalances in your brain) has never been proved…
Answer:
Pills unfortunately aren't always the answer. At 15 I was prescribed Prozac (I didn't really want medication) and all it did was make me worse. I was on it for a year before I managed to get onto something different - and I'm lucky I survived that year!
If you haven't already tried counselling for whatever problems you’re experience, you need to do that first really. Pills only help if there is an actually illness to work on. Being 15 is a hard age no matter how good life is…it gets superior on its own (for most people anyway!)
Answer:
Prozac is now never prescribed to under 20 year olds by GPs. This followed concerns that it led to an increased risk of suicide.
15 year olds, so often full of teenage angst and insecurities seldom need medication for their mood states. The often do need reassurance and occasionally psychotherapy.
They can of course cash their own prescriptions.
Answer:
At 15 I think you should take great care when thinking about taking this drug - FLUOXETINE HYDROCHLORIDE (Prozac)..
This drug has been known to increase or cause suicidal ideation, more especially in young men.
I’ve some understanding of your feeling toward your parents thoughts if they were to find you in need of antidepressants..
Do you not think that they could help you?
I have to say to you, if your GP (doctor) has your health, your care in mind, he would not prescribe you any drug because you ask him/her to..
Can I ask you why you’ve chosen Prozac as the drug you’ll ask your physician to prescribe???
If you are suffering from depression, this drug may not be the most appropriate for you, for your symptoms..
As for your question of age and PROZAC ..
Your question seems to offer no reason why you feel you should be
prescribed an antidepressant…
Can you explain how you feel, why you think PROZAC is what you need!!!
To answer your question of personal confidentiality between yourself and your physician..
I think this may depend upon your needs…
From my experience, if you’re suffering from some form of mental illness at your age of 15, then I would state your parents would need to be informed…
This I believe is what would happen here in the UK..
As for the USA, then I can’t comment…
So many drugs we can only be precribed by a doctor here in the UK
Seem to have “open house” in America…
What I would like to state to you is if you are allowed this poteintially cazardous drug, without guidance, help from either your parents or someone who can “look out for you”…
Think long and hard before you go down this road…
As for me..
At your age, I only hope you’ll not be allowed to “just ask and be given” PROZAC…
You need to talk to your physician, explain your feelings, let he/she deciside what might be ideal for you….
Hope this helps you a little to comprehend..
Only want to help you…
Answer:
I don't really think so, after all, Prozac isn’t the best anti-depressant on the market, and hasn't been the best for many years. Your GP will probably prescribe you something less addictive and harmful.
Answer:
in the US , maybe
i am not sure what the privacy rules for an antidepressant is.
