I cant stand when people slurp or make any noise when they eat, it absolutely disgusts me. I feel really angry when people do it and I don't even know why..

Is this normal?

Answer:
Well there’s a study out that really intelligent people get bothered by little noises and it makes them angry. So just consider yourself to be really intelligent. ;] I am not kidding about that study though so you are normal.

Answer:
Some ethnic races eat with their mouths open and making lots of noise and it is NOT considered rude at all. A girlfriend of mine used to eat alone in her room rather than hear her family eating and at restaurants would change places to avoid noisy eaters. Unfortunately she suicided. Report Abuse

Answer:
Ugh I know exactly how you feel!

Every meal I can hear everyone just slurping and munching really loudly - it is disgusting! It really puts me off.

I try and focus on something else, but occasionally someone will ask why I'm 'glaring' into the distance or why I'm frowing etc…

I get annoyed because I feel that they should at least take the decency to be quiet - other people are trying to eat and it is just plain rude. I eat 'quietly' (but I'm usually the last to finish) and I just wish people would do the same!

However I'm guessing most people aren't even aware that they do this or they just don't consider there might be other people around them.

So just try and drown it out, don't focus on it, don't look at noisy eaters while they eat and just try and ignore it.

Or if you want to really make a statement, just state (in a joking way) UGH! YOU ALL EAT LIKE ANIMALS! Of course, everyone will deny this, however it is very likely they will make an unconcious effort to be quieter after this has been said.

Good luck!

I can relate. My ears are so sensitive. It's TORTURE when my family smacks on their food on PURPOSE, JUST to get their kicks out of me having an anxiety attack & going nutty. That's an unnecessary hospital trip & waste of medical bills, JUST so they have the ability to get their laughs. My insurance can't afford to pay for other people's stupidity.

Each & EVERY last 1 of my family members smack on their food, except me. It makes me feel like resorting to violence. It's so bad that earplugs don't help.

Answer:
I don't know if it's normal or not but I hate it too. I used to have a boyfriend who chewed loudly with his mouth open like a toddler. My 10 1/2 year old stepdaughter still chews loudly with her mouth open like a little kid. I have to leave the room.

I'm getting angry just thinking about it!

We all have pet hates. Don't worry about it.

Answer:
I don't enjoy it when people decide to purchase a smelly takeaway dinner and eat it on a bus in rush hour!

Answer:
nothing uncommon it drives me to distraction….what to do about it…….there's nothing only advice is if you can't walk away from it grin and bear it as pointing it out to someone will only get you grief.

Answer:
I hate it when people chew whith their mouths open cos it really puts me off my food especially when they make slurpy noises and when I was at primary school there were some girls who did it deliberatly to wind me up.

Answer:
its just poor manners taught at home….exept when your eating long spaghetti then slurping is granted

Answer:
Join the club. That's one of my pet hates.

Edit:: I’ve seriously considered installing a trough in the dining room.

Answer:
