hi is there any optometrist or ophthalmic practitioners out there that can answer this can astigmatism get better as well as worse thoughout life. and do your eye always change? thanks
Answer:
Totally, it can get superior and worse over time. But if you have a siugnificant amount of astigmatism then I very much doubt it will get better to the point that it disappears. Small fluctuations in it are natural.
Answer:
Astigmatism, can definitely get worse throughout life. It is unlikely that the astigmatism would get better to the point of 0. Astigmatic axis can also change slightly throughout growth. There is no real evidence to recommend that the eye always changes, but if you're a growing teen then the eye might or might not get superior whilst it's growing. Also depending on how high the astigmatic power is will suggest if it is possible to eradicate it by sheer eye growth, but another possibility is that your astigmatic aspect will stay the same, throughout life. My mum is also an astigmat of -3.00DC, and she's always been that since she was 18.
Answer:
Astigmatism gradually gets worse each year until you’re about 18, at which point it levels off. Until then, you usually have to keep changing to stronger prescriptions each year, or your vision is very blurry. The good news is astigmatism will not blind you. As long as you keep going to your eye doctor and keeping your prescription for your glasses or contact lenses up to date, you should be just fine.
Answer:
Astigmatism (with some rare exceptions) is only a specialised version of short or long sight, so, just like any other Rx component it may shift with time.
Statistically in adults “with the rule astigmatism” (-ve form with axis near horizontal) tends to decrease with age, and “against the rule” (-ve form with axis near vertical) to increase, but there’s plenty of room for individual eyes to do whatever they like, including nothing at all.
A big change in astigmatism may be associated with the early stages of cataract formation especially in the more elderly.
In the young corneal conditions, including keratoconus, need to be considered and eliminated as possibilities.
Answer:
Yes, it's simple to reverse astigmatism. Look into the Bates method or other natural vision therapies. Astigmatism is usually corrected very easily, improving to normal takes some work.
Answer:
Yes.
Answer:
Yes it can change and can go superior. I don't know about worse though.
