I'd appreciate any feedback on the contraceptive implant please. I have been offered this, or an injection every 12 weeks and am not sure which one to go for. I'm a bit apprehensive that it will be painful and will be visible under my skin. I've also heard that it can sometimes move. Thanks.

Hi there - Ive had mine in for about 18months. I can feel it under my skin but it is invisible to the naked eye.

It doesnt hurt when they put it in as you get a local anaesthetic. I have a tiny scar about the size of a pin head.

I have had no side-effects - except for no periods (YAY!!) and I dont need to remember to do anything - except get it changed every three years - which even I can cope with.

Your arm will be a little tender for a couple of days and may bruise a little but that is all.

I reccommend it! :-)

Answer:
Stick with the pill dude. there are long lasting effects from them other options. Play safe and enjoy your love making!!!!

Answer:
my little sister had it done, it stung to go in, but now its fine. you cant see it but if you press you can feel it. Shes had no bad side eeffects although her periods can be long if they do arrive

Answer:
I know someone who has the implant in her arm You cannot see it, I don't think it moves around, she says it is painless.

Answer:
Depends how old you are. There is a lot of controversy about the effects that the implant has on bone density, particularly if you are young. The implant can last up to 3 years and is good if you are forgetful etc. The Depot injection requires 3 monthly visits to the family planning clinic. I think that both have tendency for you to gain weight too. Equally there are certain oral contraceptive pills which do this. Really you should attend a family planning clinic and gain sound advice

i had implant a few years ago and it was a nightmare, i was bleeding for two months at a time and only having one week off, when i had it removed doc said you shud have gone on the pill to sort periods out, duh! the reason i had implant was to not be on the pill

Answer:
my sis has it you can feel it in her arm and she has had breakthrough bleeding every few weeks lasting up to 3 weeks at a time so she now has to take the mini pill too and as the impland last 3 years they are reluctant to remove it as it's expensive,

she has also gained some weight too,

you should try the mini pill first :)

also my sister's periods stopped for around 6months before the problems started

i had the implant done over one year ago . had a couple of weeks of messed up periods but they soon calmed down and stoped all together. putting in the implant was not pain full but having it out was it took over an hour to get it out !!!! i have 3 scars were they took it out . i could just about see mine under my skin but that's because I'm small anyway , and yes they do wiggle slightly but nothing major. go for it there brill if you dont wanna get pregnant. warning though you can get pregnant straight away it took me 2 months to fall after it came out and my periods went back to normal with in a few weeks . hope everything goes good for you x
