I've just watch a programme about women who give birth not knowing they were pregnant!

I’m completely amazed that this happens and to so many women, there must have been about 10 on this programme! One even had twins!!!!!! She gave birth to one in the toilet and another in bed - how mad is that :-)

Do you know anyone who has given birth without knowing they were pregnant or anyone who has found out they were pregnant and were already 7 months gone? i'd be really interested to hear your stories!

I'm 20-weeks pregnant with my second child and trust me, i knew it from 4 weeks :-)

I'm large and my baby moves around so much i just don't know how you couldn't know!!!!

Any comments? :-)

Gee the first five ánswers'' certainly arent answers.

Yes I do. My grandmothers sister never knew she was pregnant until she gave birth. She didnt even realise she was in labour.

Her period continued throughout her pregnancy and she only put on two kgs. She was 19, married an d this was her first child.

She gave birth on the toilet, into it actually.

Poor lady, what a shock for her.

She did have morning sickness apparently but it only lasted a week and was put down to food poisoning.

Her son is now in his 50's!

Can you envision giving birth and not being prepared. the had nothing. no crib, clothes - anything!

Answer:
A friend of mine didn't know she was pregnant. She was 26 weeks when the physician told her. She and her boyfriend had used protection and had done everything right, and she hadn't had one single pregnancy symptom. Very sadly, as she was only 17 and didn't want a baby, she went and had a private abortion. Makes me feel very upset thinking about it as I know a lot of babies born at that stage or even earlier can live with hospital help. Anyway, it can happen. Pretty incredible.

Answer:
I think its quite ignorant for people to call it BS. Because you knew and could feel that you were pregnant, doesn't mean another woman can.

I watched the same show as the asker did. And ya, i found it a little shocking, but it can happen.

Especially with obese women. So i think some of you people should be a little more open minded and stop being so ignorant. It is possible.

Answer:
yeah i heard about that women in India who thought she had to poop so she went to the water closet on the train and gave birth and the baby was on the tracks………but im guessing she knew she was pregnant, just didnt know she was in labor? anyway i think it's total bs….how can you not know you're pregnant. Answer:
some women dont know but most of them are very over weight and so think the movements are gas/bowls etc!….. this happens very rarely, if you consider the amount of women giving birth everyday!

Answer:
Some women don't put on much weight, are not sick, have and continue to have very intermittent periods, and show no obvious other sign.

Yep, my aunt had her last baby in the doctors surgery, after having no clue she was pregnant. She was 42 and already had 4 boys, so another child wasn't in the gameplan. She was on the pill, and apparently my uncle had had a vasectomy (didn't work obviously.) She'd always had irregular periods, and that didn't change throughout pregnancy. Baby was lying more towards the back, so she didnt gain enough weight to notice anything out of the ordinary other than middle age spread, and she didn't notice any baby movements. With babies deep in the pelvis, this isn't abnormal anyway. She put the backaches down to sleeping in the wrong position, she never suffered any major symptoms, and put the minor ones down to the menopause possibly starting. Whilst in the gp's surgery to discuss what she thought was the menopause, she went into labour and had a healthy baby girl. She adores her only daughter to distraction and she's a great mom, but she's still mortified nearly a year later to think she'd been pregnant without realising. Personally, i find it weird too even whilst knowing it is possible. I'm 13 weeks pregnant, and i feel pregnant. I cant envision going 9 months without knowing the joy of pregnancy, going for scans and seeing your baby on the screen, etc.. My aunt isn't even particularly big either, so she can't blame her ignorance on being overweight..

Answer:
if you watched the show, you would know that each woman had a medical condition, were told they could not have children at some point in their lives, had not had their periods for those medical reasons, as well as almost all of them being overweight-it made sense to me. (especially the girl who took a bunch of pregnancy tests, and they were all negative-what would you think if you saw that??? for months?)

If you’re overweight, and you felt movement, and you were told that you couldn't have children-you could chop it up to stomach flip-flopping. I'm a little girl (height wise), and not overly overweight, so I couldn't get away without knowing.

Answer:
Hi, i have often thought of this myself..how can they not know they are pregnant? I know that some women dont show (bump wise) but what about all the other symptoms? Such as baby kicking or when your stomach tightens when you’re having braxton hicks or general pregnancy aches and pains? To be honest (i'll probably get some thumbs down for this) I have sometimes wondered if these women really did know they were pregnant but just ignored the pregnancy and told no one. Sometimes in the hope it will just 'go away' or for extra attention or to create drama for themselves etc..i dont know, i might be wrong but its just a thought.

Can you envision going through labour not knowing your what the heck's going on? I mean… you would think you were dying from some stomach disorder or something wouldnt you?

Answer:
Happened to a girl I used to work with. I went in one day & everyone kept stopping me to ask if I had heard about it. Apparently she worked all day, while occasionally complaining of a stomach ache, finished her shift at 8 pm - her parents took her to hospital at like 10.30 when she was getting in lots of pain & she had a baby around midnight. I don't know HOW anyone can not know though. Apparently she continued having periods, but I really don't comprehend how you can misinterpret those kicks, rolls and hiccups - surely you would think there was *something* wrong with you with all those weird feelings in there. She’s more massive, but by no means large and she has to have just thought she was getting fat lol, but one of the other women told me that she and a few others had repeatedly asked her if she was pregnant because they thought she looked it - so perhaps she was a bit in denial, or didn't realise that you can sometimes still have periods & assumed that as she was getting them there was no possibility she was pregnant.

I feel kind of sorry for people that this happens to - apart from missing out on the exciting waiting-for-baby and getting everything ready part of pregnancy - hearing heartbeats, having ultrasounds, etc…what if they don't want a baby? They have had no time to prepare for it & if they would have liked to take into account adoption, it would be so much harder to try to do that when handed a baby all of a sudden (no time to prepare yourself to not get attached.) But really, I continue to be amazed that people can manage to not know they're pregnant until they give birth. Sure, some people have few of the common pregnancy symptoms, but surely you should know your own body well enough to know when something is so drastically different about it!

Answer:
Ive been so unwell and run down with both of my pregnancies i cant get my head around how you wouldnt know! especially how much baby moves as well! I suppose it just goes to show how everyones different!

I had a friend that found out when she was 6 months pregnant. She was on the injection so didnt have periods and took a test only because she felt something move. She'd been pregnant before but 5 years earlier. Came as a bit of a shock i can tell you! But all was well!

Sorry ive just thought of another one as well! This one was 5 months but was having tests for a growth which physicians told her to prepare herself for the worst and it turned out to be a baby. So although a shock it was a happy ending!

Answer:
I worked with a girl who stated she had a baby and didn't know she was pregnant. At first we laughed and thought “yeah right”. DENIAL!. She was a very big girl, but we still thought she was just saying that. Come to find out the reason she didn’t know was because she had leukemia and hadn't had periods for over a year anyway. With her being so big and under treatment she always had stomach cramps, pain, diarrhea so anything she felt she thought it was because of her treatment. She thought she couldn't get pregnent with the cancer. Surprise!

Answer:
Well, I'm a guy, so I suppose you might state, what would you know…but honestly I've heard about this and truthfully, can't believe it.

I'm a dad so have been around a pregnant woman, so I know what's going on.

I have the ability to accept that a woman might not get that large when pregnant if carrying a small baby, but what about the kicking, you can't ignore that.

And the period stopping, the breasts swelling and becoming tender, the back ache, tiredness…..come on !

Answer:
I never understand how women can state they didn't know they were pregnant either. It's incredible to think that they dont feel all those movements and niggles during pregnancy.

Answer:
I think denial has a lot to answer for….

Like a lot of the teenagers on here who want to be told they're not pregnant instead of taking a test to see.

Answer:
“Any comments? :-)”

Answer:
