Hi there, I’m 12 weeks pregnant & would like to get my hair dyed but not sure if to or not. It would be an all over colour & highlights. I’ll be going for a skin test first to see if I’ve a reaction or not. I was just wondering on your thoughts. I know lots of people who have kept dying their hair throughout their pregnancies but I just wanted to be sure before I go ahead with it.
Thank you
Answer:
My midwife asked me if I was growing out my roots for a reason and I brought up what I read and she stated as long as I am in a well ventilated area then there is no problem. I dyed my hair with my son and I dye it with my daughter too. Nothing wrong as long as I am not breathing in the chemicals.
Answer:
The US food and drug administration suggests that until conclusive evidence is available, pregnant women might want to proceed with caution when using hair dyes.
Low levels of hair dye have been found to be absorbed into the skin and then are excreted into the urine. These low levels haven’t been associated with any adverse fetal outcomes. Also , there have been no reported negative outcomes from women who have had their hair dyed during pregnancy.
if you select to dye your hair whilst pregnant think about using a technique that involves the shortest possible time of exposure to the chemicals used and waiting until after the first trimester.
Answer:
Ok, the deal is this: most physicians recommend not dyeing your hair in the first trimester due to the fact that most hair dyes contain a lot of chemicals that could be harmful for such a young embryo. That whole 'your hair will turn green' thing is a myth and has nothing to do with the real reason.
I waited until my second trimester, just to be sure, but I guess it's up to the individual. I just thought, 'well, if I have a miscarriage or something else bad happens, I’ll never know if the dye was responsible or a even a small factor, so I would rather not chance it'.
I’ve a lovely 9 month old baby boy now, so I guess things worked out. Go with your gut (literally). Congratulations on your pregnancy and I hope you like it ![]()
Answer:
You are absolutely safe to go and get it done. Hairdressers get pregnant and they have healthy babies. I got mine doen today. some dyes can go through your skin but its no where near enough to affect the baby. I have read up on it massive time. It's totally okay. There are just too many worry stories out there.
Answer:
I've read in many sources that dye isn’t advisible in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy due to colours containing amiak, thta can be harmfull for the baby. However, if the colour is amiak free-than you can go ahead with it.
Answer:
its fine to keep dying your hair if you’ve had no problems with hair dye before.
pregnancy makes the skin more sensitive so make sure that you’ve a skin test 48 hours before you go to have it done
Answer:
the myth is that if u dye your hair whilst pregnant it will turn green.I dyed my hair whilst pregnant and its absolutly fine and it did not turn green. If there was any risk the hairdressers wouldn’t do it.

Answer:
It sayas in most preganancy books not to dye your whilst pregnant and especially if it contains peroxide i think its because of inhaling the fumes
Answer:
I was always under the impression that the colour could be a disaster because your hair structure is different while pregnant. I would advise getting good professional advice first.
Answer:
Due to hormonal differences be prepared for it not to be the color you expected
Answer:
