It's for a secondary character in a story. A future homebirth midwife named Jaclyn Jemma Winston (now works as midwife in a hospital) gave birth to her only child James at her home in Manchester. Which of these positions do you like for Jaclyn's homebirth: a waterbirth in a birthing pool, a waterbirth in her tub, kneeling position, hands & knees, birthing stool…? Help me, please !!!

Thank you !!!

Answer:
I've read hands and knees is a very helpful position as the backbone does not get in the way of the baby. Plus, gravity helps. My boyfriend was shocked when we saw this in our prenatal classes. But I thought it looked “natural”…

On the other hand I have heard giving birth in water made the labor quicker. I've heard it's a great experience.

I'd go with any of those two, or a mix (she could have been in the bath for labor, but got out and on hands and knees for delivery… not all physicians will assist delivery in the bath)

Answer:
You're writing the story - why not just pick one? All of them except the birthing stool one - hardly anyone uses those anymore and I don't know how many midwives bring them to homebirths these days (at least in the USA).

Answer:
squatting
