i am nearly 9 weeks pregnant and live in the UK

just wondering is it safe to eat at subway lets state ham or turkey with salad and southwest sauce or mayo?

i know you cant eat home made mayo and stuff , but just checking that you can eat the meat and sauce in subway?

also is it superior to get it toasted?

Answer:
Subway is fine, i ate there all the time whilst i was pregnant. Im still alive my daughter is perfectly healthy 18 month old and gotta state i was much happier after eating my subway to. If you would eat ham and turkey at home then why wouldn't you be able to do it out? I use to work in a cafe in morrisons and you hear all these people state you never know what they do in the kitchen to your food. The easy answer is nothing, nobody spits in burgers, nobody does anything to purposesly harm someone else. Enjoy your subway :)

Answer:
When you’re pregnant you’re not supposed to eat deli meat unless it is cooked. Deli meat contains a bacteria called listeria than grows then longer it sits in the cooler or fridge. This bacteria has been know to cause birth defects. I was told not to eat it unless the meat is hot, which defeats the purpose of going to get a deli sandwich. lol. I would not chance it on my baby but everyone is different. Lots of people eat it and are perfectly fine. Just do what you feel is safe for you and the baby. Good luck to you and your baby.

Answer:
i craved sub way when i was pregnant its fine, like you stated no home made mayo but shop bought is ok because the eggs have to pasteurised like milk the advice is changing all the time he only this my midwife said to avoid is tuna because of the way it is fished mercury from the bottom of the sea gets in its gills and when eaten by pregnant women it can line the arteries of a foetus but it is not at all harmful to us . If unsure call your gp who will put you in touch with a mid wife.

Answer:
Yes, it's safe to eat at subway. I used to work at Subway and there was quite a few pregnant women that ate there. They got anything from the seafood sensation sub to a turkey sub. It's okay to get a salad with meat and sauce.

EDIT- Reply to Retox

There was a salmonella outbreak but that was in America and it was from produce grown in mexico. You shouldn't have to worry about such a thing.

Answer:
I once went to Subway (whilst pregnant) for the breakfast subs when they were first out. They fiddled with the 'egg' that much I told em I didn't want it anymore.

Turkey should be ok but if you have doubts don't bother. Usually it is better when it is busy cos at least you know it wont have been stood for hours on end x

Answer:
I wouldn't bother - they had an outbreak of salmonella recently. I don't trust food made by others. My sister used to work at Rentokil and she stated to me once if you saw what went on in most kitchens you would never eat out again!

If you want the proof - here it is http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/h…

two people died as a result.

Answer:
Go ahead and eat there it is perfectly fine. The bacteria that people are speaking about is Listeriosis. It is very rare. Subway is superior than a lot of other available foods. With my first pregnancy I was young and didn’t worry about anything. Oh those were the days.

Answer:
ummmm I never heard of not being able to eat mayo!!!! thats very weird. its not good to eat seafoods, but thats all the limitations I know of in pregnancies… I’ve 2 kids and pregnant again, and I live off of watching birth medical shows…… I dont see why there would be a problem with subway!!??

Answer:
I was told never to eat any deli meat…there’s too much risk of bacteria…a subway near me had a big outbreak of food poisoning recently…also do you know how much salt is in those things? One sandwich equals 7 packets of crisps (chips).

Answer:
yes it is safe make sure the meat is piping hot and cooked through don't eat luke warm half cooked meat ask if salad is definitely fresh and the sauces should be no problem

Answer:
store brought and catering mayo is ok as its been pasturised and processed, unless ur in some gourmet resraunt nd they make fresh homemade as the egg is still raw.

Answer:
With the meat: not unless it's cooked. Processed foods at Subway still have the harmful bacteria.

Answer:
of course it is safe, talking of Subway, I'll be eating there on Tuesday after finishing work for the day

Answer:
they’d an outbreak of salmonella.

Answer:
yes is safe go a head eat it

Answer:
im in the uk and lived on subways during my pregnancy with my 3 year old they’re safe

Answer:
No. Mc Donalds is much healthier.

Order a few quarter pounders & hot apple pies, fries, big coke & chicken nuggets.

That's very nutritious for your baby.

Answer:
You're pregnant - not ill. it is recommended that you don't eat mayonnaise but really - just carry on as normal. Nothing worse than an over paranoid preganant woman!
