Hiya

Some women describe the mucous plug as looking more like the mucous in your nose. It might look like a thick glob of stringy mucous, thicker than what you would see with normal vaginal secretions. If you’re close to going into labor you might see pink, brown, or red blood around the edges of the mucous plug. This is called the “bloody show”.

Some women will lose their mucous plug or part of their mucous plug weeks before they go into labor. Losing your mucous plug does not always mean labor will begin shortly. Keep in mind that even if a woman has begun to dilate, it may be weeks before she actually goes into labor. However, if you notice blood tinged mucous before your thirty-sixth week of pregnancy, notify your doctor right away. As your body prepares for labor your cervix will start to dilate and thin. As your cervix opens up, your mucous plug may fall out. Losing your mucous plug is a good sign that labor is on its way. Though, it could be days or even weeks after you lose your mucous plug before labor actually starts. Many women don’t lose their mucous plug at one time; instead, they lose it more gradually. They might notice an increase in vaginal secretions weeks before they go into labor.

Good luck

Hi i am 28 weeks with my fourth child, yes you’re losing your mucus plug but it might not be the sign of early labour, it realy depends how much and how often you notice it, give your GP a ring he/she will give you the best advice, (you are not being silly it is better to be safe then sorry) Ideal of luck with everything

Any signs of any contractions or any bigger amounts of water being lost?

Each pregnancy is different. Some go straight into labour after the mucous plug comes out where as others still have to wait a week or more.

The major sign to look out for is the waters breaking and/or the increased contractions.

You shouldn't go for more than a week after your waters have broken, so it's important for you to look out for that.

Congratulations & good luck :)

Answer:
I lost a bit of mine last night - so spent half hour searching the web finding out about it.

You can lose it in bits here and there, not always in one go.

They only state if you lose it before 36 weeks and its blood tinged then call your physician but other than that it can be weeks before labour starts. If it wasnt bloody then you are not going to go into labour yet! Mucous plugs can actually reform as well so it doesnt always mean labour straight after.

Good luck!

Answer:
Hi, I lost my mucus plug in the same way that you’ve stated.

You can call your midwife and let her know or when you see her next you can let her know. I'm sure if you want to contact the hospital they won't think bad of you calling.

It can happen a while before you begin labour too, it was 8 days after I lost mine that I had my little girl, and even then I was induced!

Answer:
A lot of women lose their mucus plug in peices. I’ll be 36 weeks tomorrow and have been losing mine for about a week now. Some women lose it days before labour, and for others it can be weeks before. If you see ANY blood misxed with the mucus you need to go to the hospital. In most cases labour will be within 24 - 48 hours of hving a bloody show.

Answer:
With me it did all come out in one go about half an hour before i went to the hospital. I had been in labour about 8 and a half hours by then, that's where i am different to you.

In a lot of people though it comes away small pieces at a time. Phone the hospital and ask, they wont think you’re stupid, they will have at least one person a day phoning to ask this sort of question.

Remember though any signs of labour might not start right away, it could take a few days to a week maybe longer before anything happens. Good Luck

I too had this. If you're unsure and don't want to pester the hospital you could call your midwife/health visitor just to be sure. Has it got a streak of blood threw it? Mine did, a very faint one. Call your midwife and good luck

Answer:
I would call the hospital… they don't have to know who oyu are plus they are more than willing to answer these questions. Remember labour may not begin for up to a week after losing the plug. Good luck!!!!

Answer:
It sounds like your mucus plug! I would call the dr and see what they say!

Answer:
i <3 mucus plugs

Answer:
Yeah, don't waste the hospital's time. They have more important things to worry about than helping people with medical issues.
