Hi, I'm almost 32 weeks pregnant and have been getting pains in my lower legs.
It's a sort of “stretching” pain, very similar to growing pains, only more painful han I remember growing pains to be! It does ease up a little bit when it's massaged very firmly.
I've had it on and off for the past few weeks, but not really bad enough to notice it. Only last night I was in agony with it and actually cried with the pain! Also it was only in my right leg up till now but this morning I woke up with it in my left leg, only not as severe or as painful as in my right.
It's definitely NOT cramp, totally different to that and I highly doubt it's DVT as I've had no swelling or redness etc.
Can anybody shed some light on what's causing this and maybe give me some insight on how to cease the pain when it strikes?
Thanks, Hayley. x
Answer:
It could be sciatic nerve pain. It's actually fairly common in late pregnancy. Everyone I know, including myself, has had it with at least one pregnancy. It's caused by the baby shifting his/her weight onto nerves. Basically the baby is sitting on them. It mostly effects the legs. The doctor told me to keep them elevated as much as possible. I also found that using a heating pad was somewhat helpful. You can try taking Tylenol, it works for some, but not all. And it's safe in pregnancy. Just don't take ibuprophen or asprin. If it gets to bad check with your physician he might be able to offer other recommendations. Hope you feel superior. And congrats on the baby!
Answer:
Probably a charlie horse. Eat dried apricots, especially before bed and all that potassium will get rid of them. If that doesn't work, don't rule out DVT because they don't always cause swelling but as it goes from leg to leg, I too doubt its that. Its probably a charlie horse, they’re very common in pregnancy. I never had one in my life before I got pregnant and I used to run 2 miles a day.

That could be clotting, try to get some exercise to circulate your blood and talk to the physician about getting a test done to make sure it isn't.
