I’ve had last week off and this week off signed sick by my doctor for Sinusitis (Proper bad cold!) however, I’ve 4 weeks left until my Maternity leave starts (My last working day is Friday 24th October), I am off sick this week (leaving 3 weeks until Maternity starts) then work owe me 6 days holiday which must be taken before Maternity leave so when I take this too it only leaves me under 2 working day weeks left at work so I was thinking of going on Maternity leave early….take my 6 days holiday starting this Monday coming then go straight on Maternity leave afer that. I am getting Maternity pay from the government as I haven't worked for this company long enough and I am not going back there after as I want to work part time but they only want me back full time so what should I do?
Do I talk to my physician and see if she’ll sign me off sick for another 2 weeks as even though my cold is clearing up I generally am starting to feel rough with the pregnany, pains in my upper thighs, back ache, feeling dizzy and generally run down and at work I sit at a desk all day (uncomfy) and its a 12 hour day for me, up at 6.30am and dont get home until 6.45pm
Or
Should I contact work well HR department and tell them I want to take Maternity Leave early, take my 6 days holiday from this coming Monday and then straight onto Maternity Leave (which would save them paying my sick pay) and then contact JobCentre to tell them I need my Maternity Pay to begin with immediate effect instead of 27th October?
Answer:
I would just tell them that you’re having some complications with working while being pregnant and will have to take your maternity leave early. I worked in HR for a few years and, although they hate it, they can't state much about it. However, you need to give them a few days notice (professional courtesy).
Also, you should probably let them know that you’ll not be returning so they can find a replacement. Most companies will pay you your accrued holiday/sick once you terminate your employment but of course, this is decided by your company.
Speak to HR about going on maternity early, but don't tell them you won't be coming back until you get a straight answer about how your holiday/sick will be paid!
Good luck!
Answer:
Take your holidays then go on maternity leave, your employer will inform inland revenue that you are on maternity and you will receive the maternity pay in the same way you receive your wages.
Answer:
If you can afford to, I would speak to the dr and see if they would sign you off work until the day that you’ll be taking your holiday pay.
Answer:
Call your HR Dept. and find out your options. The doctor can't help you if your HR Dept. won't allow it in the first place.
Answer:
Firstly DONT tell them your not planning on coming back, they will just make life hard for you if you do. I know the HR person recommended that you should, but why make life more difficult for yourself? Usually after 11 weeks (or is it 15?) before the babies due date if you’re off sick for 3 or more days they start your maternity leave automatically. I would call HR, advise them you wish to take your holiday, and then start your maternity pay straight after. That way you dont need to worry about going back into work and stressing about it.
