If you're on a work permit I take it you're not british? Do you speak another language? I'm in the same position as you and have started doing translations for people online, as well as writing articles etc. There's a number of websites where you could get work on a freelance basis, which is great because you work when you want/can. Let me know if that's something you would consider and I have the ability to give you a few websites to try, although there are lots and they’re easy to find. Either way good luck

Why is it that you cant work for 6 months to a year after the baby is born? Is this something that all women do in the UK when they have babies or just a personal choice? I am planning to return to work 6 weeks after my son is born and I think thats what most working mothers do here. However if you wish to work from home you might want to look into something like billing and coding for physicians offices.

I work from home in the US, answering phones for a satellite world wide web company, so it's certainly possible! I'll have to give up that job at least by the time my baby comes in March (you can't have background noise, and I don't want to hire a babysitter) but it's very nice to work from home.
You may want to try looking at www.workplacelikehome.com. It's a great message board about MANY work from home opportunities. There are a lot of scams out on the web about working from home but the people on the message boards are great at alerting all of us to the scams and telling about new legitimate work from home opportunities.
Working from home is great, but it can be tricky to find a good job with the right hours or flexibility that you want - it might take looking around and applying to several WAH companies, but keep going! You're doing a great thing for your husband and your baby.

Ok, after you’ve had the baby you will be entitled to claim child tax credit, which in turn means that you are eligable to receive help with your childcare costs. Once you find a job, provided hubby works full time and you do a max of 16 hours a week, you will be entitled to working tax credit. I place my child in daycare for 2 days a week and did two 8 hour shifts. Hope this helps. Failing that and if you need to work from home, take on a job booking peoples holidays from home, you’ll need a phone line to do this, but you can choose your own hours. Good luck hun! (I went back to work 4 weeks after i had my baby)
