was at midwives this day and shes wrote this in my book can someone please tell me what it means and does it need to be 1/5 to be ready to crown or 5/5 confused thanks in advance x

Answer:
2/5 palpable means baby is very almost there…..youre aiming for 0/5.

Basically it means only 2/5th (or 2 finger depths) of babys head is felt above the pubic bone. Getting to 0/5 means babys head is fully engaged and labour is probably well under way or even nearly over

More info here………..http://www.who.int/reproductive-health/i…

Bub will soon be in your arms…good luck

Answer:
I believe 2 out of 5 cm dialated, and the baby's head is down in your pelvis (engaged) and where it should be to be ready for birth. 5 out of 5 would mean you’re at the point of dialation where she will let you start pushing. Even though I'm a tiny confused - most of the time you need to be 10 cm dilated to push.

Perhaps she means your effacement - that’s usually written as a percentage - 70% etc.

Here is some info that might help.

Answer:
Ignore all these answers, it means your baby's head is still free in the pelvis and not engaged, nothing to do wityh cervix being dilated. 2/5 means it is dropping inmto the pelvis but not engaged . think of it as going backwards, 5/5ths for example is not in the pelvis, 1/5th is engaged. it is an estimation of how much the babys head has dropped into your pelvis.

Answer:
2/5 engaged means there is 3/5 left to go.. she can feel 3/5 of babys head which is called 3/5 palpable… u have to be 5/5 engaged but i was 3/5 engaged when i was in early labour but by the time i got to the hosptal after my waters broke i was 6cm dilated.

I was in early labour the 25th april but then my waters broke 11pm that night and went to the hospital and had my son at 2.21am the 26th.

Answer:
I’m not sure. It might mean something to do with the station of your cervix and how effaced it is- but I’m not certain- never heard of that before. Maybe call her and ask her.

Answer:
At 0/5 you’ll be set to go. This describes the thinning of the cervix, or palpability.

Answer:
5/5
