My Family planning clinic is fitting me a coil the nurse i see has given me choice of two different kinds. One is called a IUD the other is called a IUS. Which is the superior one?

Both IUD and IUS (or even IUC) refer to the same thing. There are two of these devises on the market - Mirena and Paraguard. Mirena uses hormones and Paraguard uses copper (no hormones). In general, people have less unpleasant side effects from Mirena. However, if you don’t want to be on a hormonal contraceptive but want the effectiveness of one Paraguard is great - and just as effective as Mirena.
