Obviously, you need a metal or steel barbell during the process of tongue piercing. But after 4 weeks, when it's healed, can you wear clear, plastic retainer barbell with no problem?

I want to wear plastic to avoid chipping my tooth, thats why I ask :)

Thanks a lot!

Heya i'm training as a body piercer so i should be able to help you out here.

If you're lucky enough to have healed at the minimum healing time (it might be worth leaving it till 6 weeks just to be really sure) then it is ok to put in the plastic bars.

However i would suggest you using PTFE not acrylic or glass like the standard retainers are used from. This is because PTFE is actually suitable to be used as an inital piercing bar, as it is a medical plastic, is hypoallergenic and has virtually no pores (So doesn't trap dirt like the other plastic bars do). It is also really flexiable and light so will move with your mouth and will cause less damage to your teeth! The PTFE bars are see through and you can get see through balls to go on the end of them too!

I hope this helps you out!
