I really want to get my lip pierced.

Yesterday I put a needle through my lip myself but took it out about an hour later and when I woke up this morning it was really swollen. The swelling has gone down quite a bit and now its just a little bump. I'm thinking of going out in about 2 hours to get it done proffesionally but the only thing thats stopping me is the thought of the process. I've heard they put a tube-like needle through your lip (that sounds very thick and very painful and the place I go to doesn't numb). I can't bare the thought of someone shoving a great big tube through my mouth so can anyone tell me if it really does hurt/whether it takes a long time etc etc…

I've had the cartilage in the top of my ear pierced and that didn't hurt much. Do you think this will be alot more painful?

Why can't they pierce it with a gun god damn it!

Answer:
Gun's are dreadful for piercing, they can shatter cartiledge if used anywhere other then fleshy areas. Plus they aren't as accurate.

Tip one: take some imbruprofen before you go to minimise swelling and eat ice in any way shape and form for the first couple of days if it hurts. It makes it feel so much better!

When I had my lip done, the piercist (who is amazing) simply clamped my lip down so he could get to it easily. This was the most painful bit and it's like having a peg on your lip. If you go to a good piercist they will know what they are doing and be experienced so it will be over very quickly.

The process is simply this:

1)Pierce the skin with the needle, attached to this is the recieving tube which isn't any thicker then the jewellery about to go in.

2) pull the tube through, then fit the jewellery in the hole in the tube,

3) pull the tube out leaving the jewellery in place.

Try and get it done with a laberet and not a ring as it heals better, you can put a ring in after bout 4-6 weeks anyway.

Finally, in my opinion if you aren't willing to handle a very short amount of sharp pain and then a couple of hours of a throbbing pain, for a lifetime of pretty jewellery, don't bother.

Answer:
1)Area is cleaned

2)Area is marked

3)A hollow needle is quickly pushed through the skin

4)Jewelry is put into place
