Sounds about right, it shouldn't be so snug that the jewelry is pulling it tightly against the lip causing an indention, but should be snug enough not to get hung on your teeth when you speak.
An indention from a stud is very common and an easy way to mend it is to remove the stud and put in a ring for a few hours to over night. This grants the lip a chance to go back to normal. When you put the stud back in it will settle in the position that follows the contour of your lip and will most likely indent there again. As long as the backing or the ball isn't beginning to pull into the piercing your fine.
Mine does it, and as annoying it as it feels sometimes when you run your tongue across it, it's not a true problem. I take mine out and put a ring in for a few days every couple of weeks just to give the piercing a opportunity to “relax” and I suggest the same to clients once theirs is healed.

Sounds pretty normal to me. If your lip starts eating the jewelry, see your piercer to make sure you don't need a longer post.
