How would you know if you were getting your period or if it was bleeding due to infection etc?
I had the D&C 4 weeks ago on this Tuesday just gone, the 17th. I started bleeding on Monday the 16th heavy and have period pains.I’ve been spotting though most days since the procedure and am unsure if this is my period or not.
I tried to get a physicians appointment but they were too busy so i have to wait till next week so just want some opinions really.
The spotting was old blood then this period(?) was old and new mixed now it is just new blood.
My stomach is bloated like a period and i have the pains but it has only been 4 weeks even though since the baby died would have been 5ish weeks. The physician said to expect a period 6-8 weeks ish.
What are your bleeding experience after the procedure and should i take this as a period? I feel fine in myself.
Thanks!
Answer:
I was told to anticipate a period 4-6 weeks after a D&C. The 6-8 weeks the physician told you is just a guideline. Every woman is different.
It sounds like this is your period and I don't think you need to be too worried about it. If you had an infection then you would feel very unwell in yourself and have a high temperature.

Hi,
I had a D&C, and 4 weeks later I was pregnant again. Now I just gotta sit around and wait for him to come out, seeing as he’s a week late.
Anyway, I was bleeding from my D&C for 1 day afterwards, and then 3 days after that I started bleeding again, but it was just a period.
Because D&C's totally clean you out, they make you fertile again, and make you get your period.
It wouldn’t be an infection or anything, as having a D&C does clean everything out for you.
I wouldn’t worry about it, just take it as a period, but if you still want to see your doctor, then go for it.

Hi,
I'm so sorry about your baby.
I have had 2 m/c's and had D&C's with both. The first one I didn't bleed for long and had my next period about 4 weeks later but the last one was a nightmare. I bled/spotted for 6 weeks and had to have a scan and they found that I still had placental tissue left inside so I had to have another D&C.
I definitely think you should see your doctor ASAP, tell them it is an emergency and if your bleeding gets very heavy please go to your local hospital.
I’ve heard from other women that you can't count it as a period if you hadn't stopped bleeding since the op but I don't know if thats true or not.
Take care xx
