We’re TTC and my job is working as a care assistant in an old peoples nursing home and i have to lift and move heavy residents, sometimes they weigh double of my body weight i am only 5″2 and weigh 7st 12lbs. i was wondering if i got pregnant without realising and if i lifted or moved somebody until i found out i was pregnant which would be no later than 5 weeks would i harm that unborn baby i know it will only be small but i have this fear in the back of my mind. some of you’re probably thinking that moving someone double my weight, i shouldn't be doing it but is my job and all it is, is rolling them in bed to dress them and for me its simple but i am concerned that if i do fall pregnant will the baby be harmed until i find out that i am pregnant because one i find out i would stop moving them about, no doubt about

please help me

i work in a care home looking after adults with learning disabilitiesa, one of my resisnts who weighs 16 stone had a major seizure in the back of a mini van and we had to call an ambulance, and we were at the side of a road in the middle of no where and i had to help to lift him out i would of been about 3-4 weeks pregnant then and my baby was fine-im now 16 weeks and 3 days!!! :D

have a look at your works policy and procedures and see wat the policy is for ladies who are ttc, you maybe able to speak to your manager and they might adjust what your doing work wise(they will have to do that when your pregnant any way!!)

my manager has been amazing-they need to adjust your working conditions!!!

good luck and hope i helped!!!

Answer:
No, it shouldn't be a problem. During early pregnancy a fetus is tiny, and hardly noticeable by your body. Later in pregnancy when your belly expands, and your muscles move then heavy lifting can be problematic.

When you do get pregnant, talk to your work right away, I'm sure they’ve protocol about what you should and shouldn't do. In fact you can even have a talk with them now if you're worried.

Answer:
I don't think so many people go though the pregnancy not knowing that they are pregnant and do a lot of lifting and usually the baby is fine, I believe it all depends on you and how your body reacts to the pregnancy

Answer:
it depends on how your individual body takes to the pregnancy my gf worked when she was pregnant an she lost the baby so maybe its not good whats good for some may be bad for others so take no risks see your physician and ask for advice hope this helps

Answer:
If you're trying to concieve then you need to make your employer aware of the possibility of becomming pregnant and to ALWAYS stick to the correct moving and handling techniques and use hoists whenever necessary and to make sure anyone you work with does the same. You should definately NOT be lifting anything too heavy for yourself whilst pregnant. The best thing to do is keep a track of your cycle and maybe do ovulation tests so that you will know when the time is right and when your period is due (2 week after ovulation) and could possibly start pregnancy testing a day or so before your period is due to get the earliest possible result. Like I said though as long as you’re sticking to the correct techniques you should be ok in your job.
