has anyone else had weight gain after having the marena coil fitted? i have gained 2 stone in 2 years and i want this thing out!

The Mirena coil probably has nothing to do with your weight gain. We gain weight when we eat more or do not eat a health diet and exercise enough. If this is your only gripe with the Mirena I would stick with it for the remaining year as it is an excellent contraceptive. If and when you do get it removed why not think about the implant.

If you want it removed simply go to your GP, it can be removed in less than a minute! I’ve to comment though that it is unlikely tha the few micrograms of progesterone it releases daily would be solely responsible for that much weight gain.

I’ve had this fitted for over a year now, but not for contraception, to help with menapause. I have gained some weight, but I think this is due to my age. However, the benefits far out weighed the little weight gain.

I didn't. I actually lost weight which was a bonus. My side effect was almost continual bleeding. I had it removed after a year.
If you want it removed, just go to your G.P. and he/she will remove it.
